[QUOTE=BB502;1581748301]

I made a bracket for the steeringrack so the steering is now finished.

/QUOTE]

G'day BB502,
Very interested in your steering rack setup. Have you tested the lock to lock travel? How does it compare with the original setup? Great job by the way, very impressed!

Hi Mark,

There is no problem with the lock to lock travel.
I made the same setup to another Corvette i had and it worked perfect.
It´s a huge difference compared to the original setup, the car steers like a new car.

What is the exact model 9-3 Saab that the donor steering rack came from?

I was wrong, the steering rack is not from a SAAB 9-3 it´s from a SAAB 900, this steering rack was used from 1995 to 1998 and it´s a "Saginaw" rack, this rack is also used on other GM cars from this time.

I have tried to use SAAB steering rods, they fit, but because the are fitted in the middle of the steering rack it causes "bump steer".

The steering rods should have the same lenght as the lower control arm.

I have finally received my rebuild rear alxe ( after 5½ months...! ).

the underside of the body is now painted, all the brackets was removed and painted separatly, i will rivit them back later.

The engine compartment is also painted.

Please excuse the noob question, but what are the advantages of using the Saab Rack over using the steeroids bolt on product? Is there a performance or cost advantage? Everything is looking great none the less!

The rack Steeriods uses is a Saab rack (GM rack) , i build my rack for about 1/2 of the price compared to the Steeriod Rack.

Ofcourse it easier to just purchase a bolt on pruduct but it´s fun to build and it´s cheaper, but it´s no performance advantage.

WOW! BB502 Great job!

I am kicking around engines to do a very similiar build...Love the attention to detail!

For the parts you make (brackets), do you keep templates? or just build to suit and go?

Thanks,
R

+1 on this. I am also looking to change out the existing Powersteering system. I currently have a 1970 I am working on.

Love the project. Keep posting. How did you solve the thermostat housing interfering with the right side suspension?
