What is the Delay Relay and what is it for on page 385 of the 73 Corvette ASM. I am restoring a 73 and mine doesn't have one mounted anywhere on the firewall.
Does your car have air conditioning? My '71 w/A/C has a 3 second delay relay that energizes the A/C compressor clutch when the ignition key goes from "RUN" to "OFF". That puts a load on the engine that is trying to shut down, and prevents it from deisel 'run-on'. Then, after 3 seconds, it turns back off.
Hi,
On 71 cars the delay relay was used to hold the start-up rpm of a warm engine, (no choke in operation), a few hundred rpm higher than it would normally be for emission purposes. The delay to normal idle rpm is about 20 seconds.
It's the relay closest to the firewall in this picture.
In 73?

Alan
