Default 1972 Frame Replacement

Ok so i need to replace my frame on my Corvette. I found a good frame from a 1974, will that frame work for my 1972?

Not without modifications, I put a 74 frame under my 73 and had to re-work the back 12" - 16"

Hi 72,
I believe you'll find the biggest differences are in the rear of the frame because of the change in the rear bumper system on a 72 car compared to a 74 car.
I believe there are some slight differences in the front too, but those are easier to deal with.
Regards,
Alan

Default 74 frame under a 72

I used an early 74 frame which did work however with mods. Later in 74 the rear of the frames changed considerably which will require more mods. The front of the frame will need holes drilled for the front crossmemeber and the rear is closer to the 72 frame with the addition of small ears welded to the very ends of the side rails on the outside. Cut them off I left them and the rear bumper brackets did interfere with them. Good luck.

So does anyone have the frame dimensions for the '72 and the '74?

They are the same frames. They modified the 73 frame in the rear to mount a crash bar by welding on 2 plates and 2 hoops. The front horns are the same but the holes for the bumper mounts are different. Are you needing exact frame dimensions?

Default 1969 thru 1972 frame

I have a 1969 frame that has been stored in my garage (in Ohio) for over 20 years. It is from an automatic vette, so it can be used for both automatic and standard transmission vettes. It fits 1969 thru 1972 vettes.
I was in the process of restoring a 69 vette when I found a 1972 LT1 with everything in perfect condition, so I sold the "69" but kept the frame that I bought from a Bloomington Gold judge in Cincinnatti, OH. The frame is good with no repairs or rust, was stripped by the previous owner and painted black. It has been stored in my garage and has never seen moisture for over 20 years. I now need the space more than the frame. Contact me for more info about the frame.

I have been interested in Vettes for a long time. I signed up for my email address on the 2nd day that Yahoo offered them and owning an LT1 vette, was able to get LT1 as my Yahoo mail address.

How much would you want for the frame?

I don't want to get in trouble with the forum by posting prices of anything for sale as they probably don't allow that. Send me an email at LT1@yahoo.com and I will give you my phone number and the price. (below 1500) Then we can discuss it on the phone.

I used a 74 frame on my 72. I can tell you every detail but all in all they will go together almost seamlessly. I maybe did 2 minor modifications. let me know if you have any more questions id be happy to help
