What is your MPG?

Wayne,
Had that issue with my last combo.
Last time I was at the strip (several years ago) I had my old 454 based motor running a Wednesday night drags with all the imports and no track prep. Pulled an awsome 2.7 60ft, pedaled it 3 times and still managed a 13 flat.

Don't get me wrong, I can drive, I raced a 1970 383 Cuda in the 70's and 80's, straight axle car with good transmission I won a lot of races. The Vette's power and non competition TKO transmission make it a handful.

I'm guessing 12 around town with my 370 HP LT-1 engine. I have a bit of fun with it, though.
Didn't do much interstate driving...not enough to gauge mileage.
New cam will have so much overlap that I'll be able to condense my exhaust directly into the gas tank to recover some fuel. I'll probably get 5 MPG then!
Honest truth, I wasn't deciding between this and a Prius when I made my decision. Crappy mileage sort of comes with the territory.

Dude, that is the funniest thing I have read in quite awhile!

FWIW, my '78 could get as much as 14 MPG city when I had a 9.8:1 CR, tri-power, iron 427 w/280 Magnum cam and Hooker sidemounts ahead of T-10 and 3.55:1 FDR. Not economical by modern standards, but that's much better than the the stock L82, TH350 and same 3.55:1 FDR, and much more fun.

12 MPG on a 68 with 327 CID 350HP L79
But I drive it like I stole it so MPG is not a consideration
Have had it since 1972 and don't care about gas mileage; fun factor compensates for gas mileage

Oh I didn't mean you couldn't drive. Just that it would be fun to watch a couple BB C3s go at it on the track.

I can't seem to get my in town mileage to improve at all. With my ZZ engine even when I was getting 25 MPG highway my city mileage was at best 14. What tranny and gear setup you running?

8 years since purchase
unfortunately only 7256 miles (most of the time spent on jack stands)
divided by 775 gallons equals 9.35 mpg
I'm planning on using up all the carbon credits I possibly can before I croak...then I plan on being cremated just to add an exclamation point to the whole thing.

79 L-82 turbo 350, shift kit, side pipes,3.55-1 gears smog junk removed decades ago tuned distributor and carb set up .21 m.p.g hwy 75 m.p.h. thats florida with no hills in sight. that is absolutely no heavy footedness,no passing etc. once that happens it is all over. nice to have a 24 gal tank.

It was build with a 3.70, had a 4.11 in it when I bought it - just changed to a 3.55, mileage a little better but not much.

438 cuin bbc, t56 six speed w/.5:1 sixth, 3.70 rear gears and custom megasquirt efi setup. This past year on Hot Rod Power tour I was getting 16mpg highway and 12 mpg mixed. Few years back with the 700r4 and everything else the same I was able to get 12mpg highway and 7-10 mixed.

24mpg on the highway @ 80mph and 15 in the city with my 427ci 600HP small block, properly tuned carb and OD gear does the trick. I might be getting even better mileage since it started running good with the carb leaned out much more than before.
I was going to a highway mileage check after leaning it out but something came up just as I was about to go on the highway, I could be getting a couple more mpg now.
Without a wideband O2 sensor you will never achieve the best gas mileage

What is your cruise air/fuel ratio?

At the time I did the test it was around 13:1, I know have it at about 14:1 at cruise and I believe I will get much more than 24mpg on the highway now and I will lug it at about 70mph, it should be turning 1700RPM.

L48 77, th350. 3.08 gears, headers, rebuilt Q-jet and edelbrock intake i get between 15-16 depending how hard i drive it, hope it will go up after i replace the timing chain.

It would be great to see someone who does the mpg calculation in stages ie always using same engine taking the vette on the same run with same weather conditions etc then: 1) installs a 5 or 6 sp and computes mpg, 2) adds fi system computes mpg. Then we could see what really adds to an increase in mpg. i do realize that for some the benefits of say a FAST system outway their issues with running a carb but at least we'd have an idea of what each brings to the table as it relates to mpg claims.

555"/871 HP- Non O/D 5 speed (1 to 1), 3.07 rear gears. It gets 16.0-16.5 MPG with the Holley EFI at 70-75 mph. Used to get about 12-13 mpg with the 1050 cfm Dominator..but I never really tuned for mileage.
Lowering RPM is one of the best things you can do for mileage.
My cam in the N/A version was a 266/272@.050 with .774" lift. I had a 272/278@.050 in it once that was like described above...people's eyes watered like crazy if they had to follow me!
New twin trubo version only has a 248*@.050 cam (still .756" lift)..so hopefully a little better on mileage once I get it going.
