does anybody know the purpose of the fuel return line in a 69, 390 bb, and do you need one. the solid lifter bb and Lt-1s dont have them. I know they have different carbs, but any other reason than that.

The fuel return line prevents vapor lock when running pump gas on a hot day. It is essential to reliable street operation if running a carbureted car with a mechanical pump on the engine in hot climates - we never build cars without a return line any more.
Hi LT-! Kid,
You may be able to live without one.... but you can bet that because of what it cost ($), GM wouldn't have used one if it wasn't necessary.

Alan

You have an advantage down at low altitude with a little extra atmospheric pressure to prevent vapor lock. If you bring your car without a return line up here to 5,000 feet and try driving up into the mountains on a hot day (or even cruising in city traffic on a hot day), you'll be stranded alongside the road with all the other cars with out-of-State plates and no fuel return line...

Thanks for the info Lars.
Long as I have it this car will never leave the Detroit area, its Autocross home.
Your Holley carb advice has helped me in the past which I appreciate.
