Either I am doing something wrong or there is a defect. A number of years ago I bought a complete set of weather stripping. I'm installing now. But this darn stuff is to me is too big. The doors bind and will not close. I checked and checked and to me it is installed correctly. Can anyone advise if they have had similar problems. I also heard there was trouble with the weatherstripping at one time. This is frustrating.
Hi AW,
Door weatherstrip is often described as being too 'puffy'.
After installation the doors have to be 'slammed' very hard to get them to latch.
If you can get them to latch, having the car sit with the doors closed will compress the weatherstrip until you can close them normally.
If you can't get them to latch at all you might have to move the striker temporarily to get the weatherstrip to compress.
If your windshield pillar strip has the lower 'gutter' extension on it, make sure that is properly positioned so it doesn't 'bind' and prevent the door from closing normally.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan
I'm getting ready to install ws on my car this week. I've been searching and reading past threads on the subject. Your problem seems to be a common complaint. Alan has answered with the solution.
