I'm getting my 74 l82 dyno this week for the fun of it first run will be with the quadrajet that is on the car not sure if its properly tuned or not
2nd run will be with the original stock carb tuned by Lars car has long tube headers and ehaust system
Any predictions on what numbers ill get ???
The only changes to my 66,000 mile stock L-82 4 speed are:
Holley 4175 650 CFM Qjet replacement-no changes to jetting-softest vacuum secondary spring
Comp cams roller tipped 1.5 rockers-no difference from stock
2.5 dual exhaust and McJack's Shorty headers-Monza turbo mufflers
No pollution control
stock dual intake air cleaner assembly with K&N filter
175 degree operating temperature versus stock 220 temp
I figure about 45-50 RWHP increase over totally stock 1978 L-82!

I won't feel ill drives nice as it is right now car still has some nice pull and it ain't no sludge as it is I just wanna see what difference a properly set up carb does
Can't get the video to work with the new photobucket-will try later.
The dyno numbers are VERY consistent with multiple sources and examples of the L-82 on a dyno-different dynos-with exhaust changes only primarily.
A bone stock L-82 will do about 175-180 RWHP on the dyno-I don't care which dyno either. If the numbers are not in that range, something else is wrong either with the dyno or the car.

187.....There can be a big difference in the dyno
used and the parameters........
and post my dyno results-only mine were at the crank, its damed if you do and damed if you don't. I believe it, that equals out to a lil over 300hp at the crank,on a basically stock engine very achievable with ANY 350. heck well maintained 60,000 miles? thats very little. Good JOB! I'd set back and eat some popcorn while watching it hit 232hp @ the rwhs.

1974 L-82 factory rated at 250hp, ok the man took the very restrictive 74 exhaust off. including all emissions put a new tuned-right carburetor on it, right there he gained about 50hp total, got probably 5 more w/ the roller tips 16-areas of less friction there. so the man gives you the dyno results and we question this? I would IF he's claiming 332 @ the rwhs, but not 232, really? and as far as gears? that has nothing to do with engine power. Your engine will make the exact same hp w/2.87 or 4.11's it just won't get there quite as fast. Transmissions could change the # a TH400 will use about 15-20hp more to spin than a TH350, however-moot point he's got a Borg Warner T-10,[commonly known as the Super T-10] 4 spd even less parasitic drag than a automatic equipped car. And spending many hrs at the dyno-room seeing, watching and helping, I've seen as much as 25-30hp gain by doing nothing but timing and carburetion tuning>on the dyno, and the guy says dam it was running good? didn't realize what a perfect tune could do to his car. And here we go can't, won't, you'll be sorry-sad and some more negativity. Try it you might learn something? down at the dyno room. parameters thats rich.
