It's a capacitive discharge system. With a compression ratio of 10.5:1 or less, the MSD Digital 6 instructions say to run 0.050-0.060". Less gap for higher compression ratios.
This is a photo on the same engine with a regular deep 5/8" socket and a 1" extension. Plenty of room.
I normally use a spark plug socket, but the metal clip from the plug wire broke off on this plug and the rubber insert in the spark plug socket wouldn't fit over the clip.
the pictures look good, #3 is the bad one with the borgeson box in the way. wwhat is the gap you used, do you have msd on it?

Yes, no doubt on a BBC, no. 3 is the tough one because of the steering box. You can see in the picture with the deep socket on, there's room for a ratchet head, but that's it. The plug socket, a 1" extension and the ratchet are the best combo for me on this cylinder.
I'm running a 0.050" gap with slightly over 11:1 compression, per the MSD chart. All MSD ignition system (dist, coil, and 6AL box). Never a problem in the time I've had it on the car and that's 10-15 years.
I am putting on a msd pro-billet distributor, digital6al,coil& 8.5wires on a 69 bb vette
Same as I have. Love the rev limiter. My son-in-law protection.
The distributor is great with the adjustment for the mechanical advance. I run the 18 degree bushing and then have run up to 17 degrees initial timing, which helps with throttle response. Timing is an engine specific thing. You need to find what works on yours.

where did you 6al box? I am thing of putting me inside under the dash, no room under the hood & my is stock I think 10:25 comp. the person I get it from had work done on 427 comp cam, torker 2, dp 850 holly
This picture is of an NGK BKR6E short plug on the number 3 cylinder of a 468 with Hooker 2-1/8" primaries. See my post above. The number 6 is the plug heat range. A 5 is hotter, 7 is colder.
I'd be thrilled if I had that much room on my #6 plug with my angle plug Brodix raised exhaust port heads and Super Comp headers! I use the short Accel header plugs too.

I put the ignition box on the passenger-side inner fender, behind the coolant overflow tank with the long side of the box almost horizontal. It is somewhat hidden from view. There is some airflow there because the fender side vents are nearby. There may be cooler places to mount it, but my headers are coated, and I never had any problems. And for the past 5 years, I've lived in Florida. 90 out today.

Reason: "horizontal", not vertical.

Big Block ownership comes with enough headaches, maybe we're getting a break on this. LOL.
Very impressive credentials on your engine and Vette. More than a nice job.
BTW, my Jet-Hot coating is 11 years old. I've been pleased with it. I just mention this because the coating shows in the photos I posted.

did you use a mounting bracket from summit or just mount it to the inner fender?

Is that Hooker Super Comp as in under car or sidemount?
i never understood how it is "bubba" to clearance a header tube, it has to be done in a lot of cases. and has been done that way forever, what doesn't need to be done is to take a 12 pound hand maul and collapse the tube. if a little dimple gets you clearance to not need a special tool go for it. it will have no impact on performance. even Bill Jenkins clearenced his headers and not many people called him bubba.
No bracket, just drilled the holes through the inner fender.
BTW, above I wrote "vertical", when I meant "horizontal". I have 2 right hands too, my right hand and my other right hand.
sound good I am going to remove the washer bottle bracket, no need for it, car comes out when the sun is out. hope to get airflow from the vents, because I am running xs power ss headers & side pipes, gets a little hot under the hood. one more thing does your box effect your fm radio?

I have sidepipes and that's all the stereo I need, but to answer your question, no effect on the radio with the MSD ignition.
