Default Heater control lighting

Probably an easy question for someone, but I have a '72 coupe with air conditioning. The lamp and holder that lights the heater control at night popped loose and I cannot seem to find the right location to reinstall it so that is actually illuminates the control at night.

My 1980 is broken as well and I've love to replace it but cannot even find a replacement. I had to pull the whole cluster out to get at it.

Not sure what the 72 looks like, but mine cannot be readily fixed, the plastic studs snapped

Lamp for the '72 HVAC head is inserted in the bottom of that control head, toward the back a bit. Should be a gray wire going to the socket.

1968-1976 the plug goes into the hole shown on the right hand side.

77-82 did not have a lamp in the console for lighting up the controls.. It was located on top of the center dash bezel.

The lamp consisted of a heat shield, a housing, a diverter and a special lamp with a projection tip and a harness.

Do you have a kit for this? I rebuilt my console and somehow ended up with no lighting for the AC/ heater control unit. I looked on your website and it shows various parts, but have no idea what to buy or where they go.

Once you get the location and socket squared away, I would recommend an LED bulb for at least that location, as the OEM leaves much to be desired, hardly any light at all. LED makes a BIG difference there.... Good luck

Mine's an '81. Different that the earlier C3s. The bulb is a different # than the rest of the instruments, so it may be that GM had already addressed the dim lighting issue.

I apologize I read your post wrong before. Now I understand where the assembly goes; shines light down onto the heater control. I have all those parts installed already.

I have the lamp in place and discovered a new problem, that the light is on with the other instruments sometimes but not at other times. I'm going to have to dissemble the panel again and figure out what I did wrong. Since it is a different type of lighting than the instruments (projection instead of backlit) an LED may be appropriate here.

I just ordered these:
https://www.amazon.com/Cutequeen-10PCS-Lights-White-Lumens/dp/B00EPA7CZC/ref=sr_1_15?keywords=led%2B194&qid=1584062061&sr=8-15&th=1 https://www.amazon.com/Cutequeen-10PCS-Lights-White-Lumens/dp/B00EPA7CZC/ref=sr_1_15?keywords=led%2B194&qid=1584062061&sr=8-15&th=1

Three times brighter that the 558 bulb and all of the emitters are pointing in the direction of the light hole.
