OK. So I had my car bodywork and repainted a while back. All this time I've had the car, the windshield area seemed pretty solid, or so I thought. Well, I decided I needed a new windshield because a tiny crack below the wipers became a very large and very visible crack. Removing the trim pieces revealed a very nasty secret. Rust. If I could figure out how to attach an images, I would. I know I will need at least a new upper and corner. Any ideas about what to do about the lower portion below the fender line? Removing the body panel is not an option for me. Feeling kinda sick about it. Scott
Removing panels is the only way to fix the lower corners, unfortunately. I've seen some shops cut the top part of the fenders off, do the repairs and then bond them back. Then they paint just that part and clear the top surround. As long as the shop is competent, that would be a perfectly good repair and undetectable.
Properly fixing the lower windshield frame corners without removing the body panels is not possible......but there is another option. I removed the entire frame and welded and bonded in a replacement without removing any body panels. Mine was rotted in all 4 corners and also across the top, so I elected to replace rather than repair.
use photobucket to post up pics. I think there is a sticky with step through pics and instructions. I am in Fayetteville also and happen to have a 72. If you want i could come by and take a look at it. I did my whole windshield removal, frame strip and seal, and then had GlassDr come and put in my glass which they did a very good job.
