Default 454 fun

i had a 454 engine rebuilt by bob's speed shop in fort lauderdale for a 72 coupe project i finished a while back. it ran ok, but was too rich. i scored an unmolested q jet off the bay and rebuilt it according to lars' recommendations. i hadn't driven the car much since the carb job, but today i took it out. now, i know it's got 3:70 gears and a wide ratio 4 speed, but-when i nail it in first at about 20 mph it just spins the tires. i know it's only got stock width tires, but it impressed me! thank you bob and lars!!

Hi jnb,
So it really is TORQUE that's FUN on the street, more than horsepower!
Regards,
Alan

I remember my 68 GTO, 400/350 had 445 ft/lbs of torque at 3000 rpm.

My vette was eating treads in first and second gear start with 4.11 rear so i went and purchased street slicks.

have fun!

I have a 468?(454 30 over) with 411 gears and an M21....If I had stock tires on it, they wouldn't last a month.

What brand clutch do you have in it? I'm putting together a 496 for mine next year with a T10 4 speed.

Thanks. That's what is in the car now
I'm thinking of going with a centerforce dual friction but was wondering if I should go up to the centerforce DFX clutch set up?
