Default Spark Delay Check Valve

1979 L48. Seems I am missing the Spark Delay Check valve, seems this is a discontinued item. Comes off the second TVS switch (blue ports) on the thermostat housing, two lines from TVS and one side to carb vacuum the other to vacuum advance on the dizzy.

Two questions...

Do I need it? If so, does anyone have one they want to get rid of or is there a work around for it?

Thanks in advance.... JB

Get the P/N for your needed part from the AIM. Then take that list of vehicles for the carpartkings part (particularly the 1979 Chevys) to the Parts Counter of a Chevy dealership and ask them to look up the P/N for that piece on vehicles in that list.

When one of them is the same as the P/N you need for your Corvette, just order the 'sister' part from carpartkings.

P.S. Since that part is discontinued from the GM supply chain, you can explain your situation to the Part Counter person. If they're not terribly busy at the time, they should be glad to help you out.

P.S. Please remember to come back to this thread to post the details of the 'sister' part you found, so others can benefit from your research.

I rerouted my vacuum lines when I removed that check valve and the thermal switches from my intake area. No issues without it. It is an emissions item.

Ted,

Did you just port the vacuum advance on the distributor directly from the carb then and bypass that 3rd TSV completely?

Ok, gonna remove the Spark Delay and the EFE is already gone. I'm a visual type of person, so... does this look correct for headlight and emission connections (tired of looking at 6 different pages in the AIM)? I know the colors aren't correct but they where easy to follow.

Hi All - first post, but I've been using the forums for the last 6 months to put together a 79 'project' with my son.

I'm in the same boat as jbrown8238 - looking for the spark delay check valve. Unfortunately, I need it for emissions, so I can't just leave it off. The E-Bay listing above seems to fit 4 cyl engines, so not sure if that would work or not.

I tried the suggestion posted by 7T1vette, but the AIM doesn't seem to list the part number of the check valve (but I did find the diagram showing it) - are part numbers listed in some hidden section of the AIM?

The part on CarPartKings (red/black) looks to physically be a match, but the applications are mostly trucks. Doc Rebuild shows a green/black valve that looks identical, but he does not have any in stock.

Anyway, after some extensive use of google (couple of hours), I THINK a more appropriate part might be GM #476330 (DSV20), but is still probably not the 100% correct part?. It matches physically, fits 6 cyl and some 8 cyl in 1979/80 (although listed for Camaro, El Camino, Caprice, etc, but not Corvette).

Here is what I found, in case anyone else finds it useful. If anyone knows the actual GM part number of this part on a 79 with fed emissions, let me know.
