High temp engine paint and primer: I know this subject has been cover many times but a search really didn't really leave me with a direction to go.
My engine is currently in the shop and I am doing some research on what products/paint removal to use on the engine.
The engine/parts will be hot tanked...should I paint the parts individually or like the factory did? Primer? If so, what type? Is regular epoxy primer OK? Bead blast parts or scuff and paint?
If beadblast, should I do it before or after hot tank? I am thinking self etching primer so it doesn't have a "built up" look.

Just drop me an e-mail request for my "Paint Formulas" paper. It has complete instructions on how to paint the Vette engine in correct colors and paints, including primer recommendation and the actual mixing formula for the engine color.
As a note: You don't need "High Temp" paint for an engine. An engine operates at coolant water temp: below 250 degrees. If paint burns off your engine, you have bigger problems than the engine paint...
Hi Lars,
I read your comment about the need or lack of need for 'high temp' paint.
Don't you find that on cast iron intakes the paint burns off each side of the heat crossover that runs under the carb.
That's why I recommend the VHT, (for one), engine enamel.
STILL no need to touch the q-jet you rebuilt for me!!!!
Regards,
Alan
