First time posting so forgive any screw ups. I have a 1970 c3 that I want to put a rack on. I have read several posts and read several articles on instillation but haven't seen any mention on the centering of the rack front and back. Do I center it over the gas cap? Thanks.
Way closer to the rear of the car, he gas lid almost hits the front when open. I've got the AIM type install sheet around somewhere, I'll have a look

make sure you really want the luggage rack, those holes are really hard to get rid off. I like the racks, some people don't, and that is alright with me.
The T-tops will only tie down to the luggage rack if you also have the T-top lock-down brackets/locks for them. And, those brackets only fit correctly on racks made like the originals. Really research this well, because you don't want to install a rack that won't do what you want.
You will need the 1977 V54 luggage rack with the pins for mounting the hardware for carrying the tops. The V54s were installed at the factory and shipped with the car.
The 1977 assembly instruction manual (AIM) shows how they were installed at St. Louis.
Dealer installed racks did not come with the top mounting hardware.
There are chrome-plated steel luggage racks and there are stainless steel luggage racks. Some vendors sell luggage racks AND some aftermarket hardware that allows you to mount the T-tops on the rack they sell.
Find out exactly what rack you now have and call several aftermarket places to find the adaptation hardware for your rack to mount the tops.
My rack is titless and the brackets have been holding the panels for years ,sometimes at fast speeds... No problem ... yet.... The end of the Hot Rod Power Tour.. in the rain ...
