I've been scarce as I've been working on everything under the sun. My son just bought a 77 and 79 recently and we're finally getting on the 79. The harness was hacked all to heck underhood and I have the large black lead from the headlights just clipped off at the tee where the underhood harness splits off to the alternator. Where does that wire ground to? We're about to eliminate the tacky aftermarket gauges somebody put in for whatever their reason was. I ground the oil pressure and water temp leads and they make the gauge move, hopefully that's a sign the gauges will work with the senders. We're trying to get this back to as close to factory appearing as possible including ground locations. They've put wrong terminals on wires and it drives me crazy. The only problem is, he's got me itching for another for me and the wife, preferably a shark with chrome bumpers.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions, Chip.
The forward lamp wiring harness can ground to the front left bottom section of the radiator support,,,and also the center of the beam in between the headlights where the horns are often mounted...along with being mounted to the backside of the alternator itself.
Would highly advise getting a wiring diagram....especially if it has been hacked. Often times I will replace wiring harnesses instead of spending time fixing something that is worn out for "Bozo'ed" to death.

Thanks Dub,
This has been converted to a serpentine drive from a later model GM and the alternator wiring looks rednecked but it is functional, cleaning up that mess is the next step. I think the prior owner had "mechanics" working on it and ran out of cash or patience.

YEP--- I know this PROBLEM OH TOO WELL!!!! Fixing things that "Bozo" got his hand on. Gosh people...if you can fix it correctly...don't touch it...or if you "Bozo" it to get you home...FIX IT RIGHT when you have it home.
