My BB update Engine pics :)
Here's a rundown on the motor:
Gen V 454H.O. 4 bolt main +.060
Speed pro forged piston w/ 210 dome (10:1)
Stock forged rods 7/16 rod bolts
stock forged crank
mild port and polished Gm iron heads
2.19/1.90 valves
119cc / 325cfm
Comp cam 294 solid w/ comp cam springs
double roller timing chain
G.M H.O intake dual plane (may change do to clearance)
850 Speed demon w/ mech secondaries
Vertex Magneto distributor
headers Hooker chrome sidemounts
Our '67 GTO 4spd conv in the forground

You can see my C4 in the foreground, I'm taking all the LPE goodies off, you can see the Super Ram on the garage floor.
Here is a pic of our '00 Northstar Cadillac STS motor, we stripped all the paint off before get get it chromed. It has a LS6 intake and a larger throttlebody, all forged internals, can you say NITROUS . This motor is going in our '37 Buick Sedan backed by a 700R4, Z28 rear, mustang II front (4 wheel disk)

That should be a potent BB. :yesnod:
The engine is looking great. I believe you mean the 294 solid lifter cam :D :p:.
It's a 294 w/ .595/.595 lift.
Yepper. I have a Holley Strip Dominator coming in pretty soon. The Strip Dominator is used but it has been professionally ported and gasket matched. The Torker II seems to quit at about 6000RPMs. The cam is designed to go to 6500RPMs and the heads are good for at least that much too. It should perform a lot nicer with a better intake.
What intake are you going to be running?

What kind of Rocker Arms are you going to use?

For now I'm going to wait and see if this intake will fit under my bigblock hood, probably not. It's a dual plane off the 454 H.O. If it will not fit, I'm going to go w/ a single plane. Keep me posted with the Holley.

Thanks, just hope it will be pretty as your 383. :yesnod:
I'm running the stock valve covers so I'm forced to run the stock rockers do to the low profile covers. I'm looking forward to seeing those numbers on that stroker motor yours.

I can't wait to get some numbers from the dyno testing!!!

P.S. The same friend of mine with the 396 had a polished Torker II Intake on his engine. It was one of the most beautiful engines I've ever seen!!!

You can fit Comp Cams Roller Tipped Rocker Arms under the stock valve covers. That's what I am currently running. Now that I have M/T valve covers I'm thinking of going with the Comp Cams Full Roller Rocker Arm.
454
steel crank
7/16 rods
990 REC Port heads, gasket matched 2.25/188 valves
10.2 compression
Gm Dual plane intake
800 DP holley
21/8 side pipe hooker headers
Comp cams 294 solid
Roller rockers
I't pulled 426 rear wheel horse power with open headers.
Your friend's motor is similar to mine. Is it tuened? The reason I ask is because 426 at the wheels seems somewhat tame for that built motor. That's around 490hp with a 4spd (15% drivetrain loss). True, 490hp is NOTHING to sneeze at but, with that cam and heads I'd figured more.
I realize a single plane would garuntee more power, but on my Desktop Dyno I seen 593hp with a dual plane and open exhaust. With a single plane and open headers it brings it up to 640hp at 6,500rpms.
With that being said with mufflers your friend is barley making 400hp out of the 454. He has a good cam/heads/carb/and headers, I wonder why he's putting out low numbers?? Or am I overlooking something??
MSD 6AL, MSD distributor,40 deg total timing
The Holley is a basic 800DP with the choke milled off. So the carb and the GM intake could be holding him back some. The new Car Craft has a good
article on the 454 HO. They swapped the factory intake to a Performer RPM and picked up 16HP and 9 lb-ft of torque. I was thinking more like 18-20% drivetrain loss on older 4 speed cars. The new 6 speed corvettes probably have 15% loss. Less friction. So 520HP -18% is 426HP. With a new intake and carb I think there's another 25 to 30HP in it. If he realy wanted to make some serious power he should go with a big soild roller and a good single plane intake. Rear wheel dyno numbers can be disappointing.
I watched a 69 chevelle one time on the dyno with a 396 big block chevy. Brodix aluminum heads, single plane intake, Dominator carb, big cam.
He was talking alot of trash! You know how bad it was. I't pulled 300RWHP
It was hard not to laugh!
:)
