Will the stock clutch Z-bar clear these headers and will they have O2 sensor bungs? If so, put me down for a set. I'm across the Sound in Fairfield, CT. I, too, have the Melrose and am sick of them.
Thanks,
Carl
Carl I believe it will but how do you get the stock Z-Bar to work with the LS engine? Is there a kit that mounts the ball on the block? Do you drill the block? Let me know. Thanks.
but regardless of whose kit it is, all that really matters is that the z-bar location is given by a perpendicular from the position of the mounting bracket on the frame rail to the block or alternatively the approximate length of the pushrod to the yoke in the bellhousing. The number 7 exhaust tube should not be anywhere in the vicinity. If it goes forward of the iron manifold it will be OK. Maybe this will help?
fwiw I am using 98-02 fbody headers in the 69 swap im working on.
using side pipes exit though and a 4l80e trans. but I would b able to make a full length exhaust but would prolly hang lower if using 3in tubing all the way to the back. but on this build not using the trans crossmember holes for exhaust.
I have a set of the F body headers and was not pleased with the fit or the angle they came out of. They cold have worked but I was just not happy with the over all fit. My coils are on the firewall and they were to close to the firewall.

A.R. Headers
Nick,
I used the motor mounts from VettAid.com and the optional Z-bar bracket. It's similar, if not the same ones, as the pic in ignatz' post above.
I also have the bracket that RickyBerg posted above. It came with the C3 TKO500 kit I got from www.hurst-drivelines.com/?page_id=120. but I didn't use it.
No drilling, just brackets. Are you ready for me to call and talk about your headers for a possible order? How far are you from the Bridgeport Ferry at Port Jeff...just wondering if I would save on shipping to pick them up?
I just pulled my headers out of the box, to check the fit. I was very disappointed when I looked under the car. I see I'm not alone in this.
I take it that your talking about the Melrose headers.......Send them back! Buy a set of AR Headers, they are stainless and well made! Looking forward to seeing the C3 LS header photos.
Wow looks like low hangers... Laugh that was funny ... Seriously they have it to low .. and personally the O2 bung should be on the out side .. Thanks for the pics ill forward it to my fab buddy .
The Melrose headers are terrible. I can't believe they are even sold. I cut mine up because they had to be modified to fit the steeroids then the low hanging issue is terrible. I have an appt with AR tomorrow and am going to pick them up and put them on. If I have time tomorrow afternoon I will put them on and post some pictures. I am very confident these are going to work well and fit perfectly.
Diehard - I posted some pics of the problem in my album.
Solid LT1 - the box nd bubble wrap went out in the trash Sat. Morning.
wow, way too low, I modified some hookers and fit great with sternoids ... these guys that are fabricating them need to to get a rolling frame with LS engine installed so they can get it right.
Diehard - I spoke to the owner this morning. He had heard about the fit already. Apparently, these headers were designed with the G70-15 in mind, vehicle sitting at factory height. He said he would take them back, if they were in good shape. He recommended putting the car on the ground and looking at the actual clearance instead of going by the oil pan. I'll do that after I get the driveshaft bolted in but I would like a better fit then what I have now.

BS. The tires have nothing to do with it. There is very little clearance even with tall tires. I got. The runaround when I told him about mine. " All cars are slightly different" is the story I got. I'm. Not buying that. I have some pictures of how low they hang. Not even close to fitting correctly.
I am calling the local fab guy he , replied to me on face book where I had sent him a link to this topic. I will post what he says after I talk with him.

G70-15? What century is this guy living in? Dosent he know all us LS types go with at least radial tires? WTF?
