buddy is rebuilding a carb and sprayed it with headliner glue thinking it was foam degreaser. it sat overnight and now is very sticky. would it be better to soak it in gasoline or to sand blast it?
Use spray carb cleaner. Have your "buddy" buy at least 2 cans. Use rubber gloves and do it outside. That should clean the goo off. When disassembled, stick the parts in dip can of carb cleaner and allow to soak for a couple of hours (or more).

The only thing I know of that will loosen headliner contact cement is acetone. You can buy it by the gallon at places like Lowe's and Home Depot. Buy a couple of gallons, put it in a metal bucket, completely disassembly the carb, and soak it. Then, buy some rubber gloves and a pack of 3 inexpensive tooth brushes, and brush every part until the crap comes off.
I'd suggest getting a bottle of good whiskey to go with the job.
Canadian Club is about the smoothest whiskey I have ever tasted. Not too rough on your wallet, either. As far as the acetone goes, one brand is about as good as another, they all taste about the same.
I'm just kidding! Don't drink acetone! No matter what brand it is!
Jack Daniels, Old #7? Eeeesh! I think I'd rather drink the acetone!
J/K, everyone is entitled to name there own poison, right? Anyway, good luck to the OP, and I think the point here is that this job will require some sort of booze. Let us know how the acetone works out, OK?
