I have a 70 350/350 and decided to upgrade the dash speakers. After removal of the current speakers I discovered they were not original and a previous owner had removed the original connections and connected the speakers directly to the wires. The terminals on the old speakers were not marked + or - so I don't know which is which. The new speakers are marked + and -.
My question is, I have green and black wires on my original radio/speaker cord sets. Which is + and which is -.
Hi S70,
I believe even on the original speakers the wires were soldered right to prongs on the speaker.
The connection with the wires coming from the radio was a foot or two from the speaker.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan
That is true, Alan. But those speakers are gone and the OP can't use them as a reference.
Green wires are signal wires; black wires are 'common'. Also, the original Delco system used 'common' grounding for the speaker wires and radio chassis. Newer head units have internal grounding and speakers may be isolated from chassis grounding. Use the installation instructions to assure proper wiring of any radio system revisions.
If you are still using the original Delco head, common grounding is fine for your 'new' speakers.
Thanks for all the input ... my speakers are Kenwood KFC-4675C that I received for Christmas. There isn't any detailed schematics for installation, just two wires from the positive and negative going back to a line drawing of a radio. The speakers are for the dash location, as such they are not grounded since the dash is some compressed product from a galaxy long ago. The radio is original and the two wire choices are green and black. Based on the previous reply I was going to connect green with + and black with-. Are you suggesting an alternative choice?
Thanks for your consideration.
