I replaced the engine bay wire harness all went smooth and when I connected the battery the switch was hot. Car starts and everything works but ithe ignition switch is always hot. The only way to stop the engine was to pop the coil wire.
I'm restoring the car and know nothing about the history. Ignition switch looks like it was replaced but it functioned fine before I replaced the bay wire harness.

Any ideas??

Check again at your starter solenoid. If the wire that attaches to the outside edge of the solenoid is touching the battery cable post...it will stay running even when you turn the key off...because it is still powering up the coil. I believe it is the fabric coated wire...the other wire is the 12 gauge purple wire for starting the engine...and it is on the solenoid terminal closet to the engine block. I would bet that that wire terminal is touching your positive battery cable post at the solenoid. Check and see if you have 12 volts on the positive side of your coil WITH THE KEY OUT of the ignition....it you do...it is at the starter solenoid.

Mr DUB Thanks I'll give that a look see. Also I've observed on the fourm is the 3 wires to the starter the purple one is close to the engine block so with that said, the way it was wired before the new harness is the purple one close to the block and the black wire was wired to the transmissn as a ground and the is that correct too?

YES...the black wire is the ground for your blower motor and your wiper motor. YES...purple wire is closest to the engine block. The other wire that is down at the solenoid goes on the small outer terminal post of the solenoid. If that wire is contacting the positive battery cable post....it will make the engine not able to be shut off. Like I wrote in my previous post. This terminal is easy to allow to contact the positive post if you are not careful when tightening it.
