Default Really!? Is this even possible..

So, after some frame issues found on my "new" frame, I bought another "new" frame this past summer. It was amazingly clean, some of the original marking still on it, etc. etc. Really nice frame. I proceeded to complete the chevy power book modifications, seem welding, etc. It was sent out to powder coat in fall, and I'm just getting back to it and mounting all of the suspension.

After getting the a-arms and springs on these past few days, I went to mount the steering linkage AANNNDDD... THERE IS NOT AN IDLER ARM MOUNT ON THE FRAME!! WTF?

The hole is there for the long pass through bolt, but no tab on top of the frame for the shorter bolt. I don't get it. ??

Went back and looked at pictures from when I first got it, and through my welding project and no signs of it ever being there, or any signs of being broken off.

I'm screwed... I guess my only choice is to grind my fresh new powdercoat, weld on a tab, and then re-powdercoat the area (I have a gun) with an infrared heater.

Hi I,
AH! This is the frame from the long lost car with the "steering delete" option!!!!!!! It's worth a fortune and you ended up with it by accident!
Do you have a tab from the other "new" frame that you can use?
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan

Well the first "new" one was actually a nearly complete rolling chassis that a guy gave up on a few years ago. It had sat in a storage garage for a while and I got it for $1500 with a lot of new stuff. But, later found the rear section to be beyond acceptable hidden underneath POR15.

The current bare frame I picked up for $500, but had a day worth of travel. It was from a forum member, so just sent him a message to see if he may know anything.

Aren't I lucky! Trade 'ya for yours?

...Nope, sold the first "new" one to a guy willing to do the repair, but have my rotted original I can steal it off of!

How many frames can YOU see in the first picture? (I don't know if that's funny or disgusting )

The second is on the way home. The grounding cable kind of blocks the area but pretty sure it does not appear to be there.

Third - my buddy strapping it down when I picked it up from powdercoat. Gonna hurt to grind . Good thing I have the ability to fix it.

I don't know. Doesn't sound like that big of a deal. Probably take what, a couple hours?

Odd... could it have been a frame that had an aftermarket steering rack put on it and didn't need the little bracket and was removed?

For all You guys in the Rust belt that needs a better frame there has been one on the local Seattle Craigs List for a number of weeks. Its powder coated and looks ready to go. $600. No this is not mine nor do I know who's it is in any way.

Your right, the work won't be too bad. It's more messing with the finish and not knowing if or how trying to recoat it is going to come out.

Who knows! The weird part about it is that there were no signs of it being there. You'd think there'd be grind or break marks.

That's an interesting fix. I was considering the Borgeson, which wouldn't help my scenario, but the steeroids is quite a bit more expensive. I think I'd rather just fix it.

The "Rack Attack" that I installed on my '74 uses that mounting bracket. I would suspect that all aftermarket rack and pinions use it.

I have used a heat gun to fix powder coating blemishes.. I would go to your powder coater and get a small amount of the same powder they used..

After I posted my response, I kind of figured any of the kits would probably still need the mount.

I called them yesterday and found out what powder they used. Ordered a batch online and should get it soon. I have a household oven I use for smaller parts, but for this I'm going to use a propane tank-top infrared heater directed at the area to cure the powder. Hoping it should work well.

Plus, the more I though about it, it's really in an area your never going to see very well when the car is back together. If it doesn't blend perfect, it'll only bother my OCD.

The thing about using a heat gun you can pin point the area needed with out disturbing the good area... Hope it works out well for you...

You didn't have any issues with the heat gun blowing the powder off? That was my concern but if not, I'll use the heat gun.

No, start at a distance once the powder gets sticky you can move closer... Takes a little practice so just grab some scrap metal and try it. My heat does not have a strong blower in it..
