Wally, not to appear argumentative since your car is so original, but the NCRS TIM and Judging Guide states:
"The side rocker molding is a two piece unit. The larger is a semi flat black fiberglass with the grain showing. The smaller is a polished aluminum with a black upper horizontal rib."
My 68 appears as described in the manual and I believe it's original. Semi flat and satin are pretty close.

I was just going by the color or finish and figured either one would be ok....It wasn`t but a few years ago that I realized the long piece was plastic..........:
I don't drive it very much, too many toys and this sucker uses 100+ ........
Semi-flat black and satin black are about the same sheen. For most owners, either would do. I would recommed using John Deere "Blitz" black spray paint. It is easily obtained at any J-D outlet/supply store (reasonably priced for a large can), looks great, and is very durable. It will work for any 'blackout' paint used at the factory and for interior semi-flat black parts.
Semi-gloss black paint is much to shiny for the rocker panels.
Thanks......I needed that info too. Seems like the P.O. installed newer one-piece polished aluminum/thin. black, upper-stripe rocker panels on my project car.
Hi,
Quanta has a pretty nice selection of black paint available.
High Gloss
Semi-Gloss
Medium
Semi-Flat
Flat.
There doesn't seem to be any standard for the description/name, except that a RANGE of gloss percentage is used to describe the amount of glossiness.
Regards,
Alan

PO of my 68 had the fiberglass side pipe covers on that are pretty much destroyed. How are the rocker panels supposed to be installed. I don't see any kind of mounting. Do they attach to the frame or the body, and will the one piece 70-77 rockers fit on a 68. Are there supposed to be some posts on the frame. Looking at some of the lower rocker repair kits, it looks like there are posts that attach to the frame.
Hi W60,
The rocker trim panels mount into the birdcage flange and fiberglass body with an assortment of small machine screws and self tapping screws.
The frame isn't part of the methods used.

Alan
Here's the assortment from a 71.
I think the smaller pan head screw (in the bottom row) should be an oval cross-recessed head like the rest.
They're for the left side of the car and the front is on the left.

So along the bottom of the body underneath the doors there are 3 tabs that extend down and then another one just ahead of the rear wheel, and two more spots directly below the gills. I assume this is where the fasteners should attach, which is 6 different points. Your selection of screws totals 7, so that might be a little difference between the model years. I think I can figure it out from here. Almost got this frame-off complete, and you have been a great help along the way.
