[QUOTE=jkippin;1591830574]I've got a Speed Direct bar in mine as well. It bolted up with just a little trimming off the ends. I chucked it up and removed .125 off each end. could have simply taken it all of one end but I am a little ****.LOL
How did you go about trimming the ends? I was thinking of cutting with a Dremel, but don't have much experience with this kind of thing and don't know what would work best. tks
These are the two vendors I am aware of that offer spreaders bars for C3's-I have had both…
,
I currently have the speedirect aluminum bar that has pre welded tabs for C3's with mechanical fan. It is a smaller diameter bar and fits perfectly in the tight space…close by no issues in 4 years now and it works great eliminating frame flex. I would highly recommend this spreader bar for C3's with a stock mechanical fan.
Does it make a difference when it comes to fittment, if you have stock ac on top of the mechanical fan?
I seem to remember it mattered if the wheels were off the ground or not affecting the length a bit. I may be wrong but I trimmed mine on a lathe and found I didn't need to after all.

Yes, it matters. There is a measurement listed in the AIM for distance between the sides. Mine was short on the ground, in the air it was ok. Placed spreader bar with car up, lower car, remeasure and all is good.
I got my 79 out for the first time this week end. Last winter I installed a Speed Direct spreader. We went out to dinner Friday and I was so excited to get it out I was just enjoying the ride. Saturday we ran errands and I made it a point to see what was different. The first thing I noticed was before the car wanted to wander, I thought it was because I was used to rack an pinion steering, the bar cured that problem ran straight and true. Corners used to feel weird compared to our daily drivers, kind of scary even. Now the curves seem much more comfortable. For a hundred bucks a great performance upgrade. As far as the install jack the car up so the shims don't fall out, put the brackets on and set back down. Install the bar ( I didn't have to modify any thing) tighten 1/2 to 1 turn using the jam nut to tighten per direction. A pain to get into the tight spots but well worth the trouble.
put the car back down on the ground before final connecting. If you don't do this it will through off your alignment. The frame does have a tendency to spread/relax.
The bar will fit with stock a/c components installed.
