I have a 1982 Corvette...Has electrical issues that appear to create problems with starting...Ext. directional will work but internal lighting will go out...Most of the car has been upgraded i.e. wireing,
radio, starter, etc...I've had it in to a couple of places but the problem keeps occurring...Sooo I'd like to know if there is a local Vero Beach mech/electrical or, at least, this area who may have more experience with this older model corvettewhere...Any help appreciated...
Most likely your problems are related to the 'upgrading' process.. OR ..they have to do with old main battery cables, both positive and negative.
On the '82, there is also the possibility that the grounding point[s] for the EMC controller may also be tarnished/weak and that cleaning off ALL the contacts and the grounding points may resolve those problems.
"7T1" mentioned battery cables. If yours haven't been changed they should be- they are over 30 yrs. old! These cables are the beginning of your electrical wiring. My '78 has 25K miles on her but the positive cable was corroded almost in two. Her first road miles were in Detroit so salt no doubt was the culprit. Looking at the cables I could see no sign of damage but I noticed corrosion at the post & peeled the cover open to expose a disaster waiting for me to drive way away from home! Would be worth a look.
