Looking to upgrade the stereo on the 69 coupe. I like the upper speaker location in the upper dash pad and wondering which year dash pad would fit in my 69. Has anyone done this, please let me know. Thanks T
Hi T,
The upper pads with the perforations and mounting bracketry for radio speakers started in 1970 and will fit in your 69 interior.
Not all dash pads are created equal…. I'd speak to Willcox to get their thoughts on which manufacturer to use at this time.
Regards,
Alan

1970 -1975 will work just fine. You won't be able to bolt the inner reinforcement to the dash pad in all locations but it will work. It will only give you two locations to bolt the inner bracket (2 of them were located where the speaker grille is located on the 1970-1975 pads).
When you get the newer style pad, number 11 doesn't come made in the pad and you must use the holes for the number 4 screw and you'll have to use two of them but it will work just fine.
On the other hand, you'll also need two speaker mounting brackets that are not included when you purchase a 1970 and newer dash pad. These brackets might be in stock but they would only be in stock in used, new isn't being made right now.

I think you'd get the same results, if not better, by installing upgraded speakers in the kick panels. A lot less work and cheaper.
......totally agree....I upgraded to better 4 x 6's in the kick panels, and there is no lack of soundstage in the front of the car. Just get speakers with good high frequency response specs.
