Default 72 windshield trim gap

I just put the long SS trim piece that goes at the top of the windshield on for test fitting. The ends seem to fit very well, but towards the center there appears to be a sizable gap between the long thin SS peice and the SS T-shaped piece. Its close to a ¼ inch wide. should this not fit tighter?

Thanks
Scott

Yes, it should. I suspect the clips that are riveted to the header to hold the trim on are either the wrong ones, or may be bent or installed improperly. Also, the T-top stainless trim should have a lip along the front edge, and I think that lip should also overlap the edge of the header.

Hi,
I'm thinking about the same as ogto.
It's possible that the flanges on the long, thin, ss piece are not set in the clips, but rather are sitting just forward of the clips.
The clips could be installed incorrectly, or with the wrong screws (which can block the flanges from seating), or hopefully, the thin ss piece just needs to be re-installed starting at the center, setting each flange as you work towards each side making sure each flange is fully set.
Regards,
Alan

If memory serves, I think that`s how I did mine.... starting at the center and working towards each end. When you snap the centers down, the ends will twist up and look wrong, but they will come back down and fit right as you snap them in towards the ends.

Thanks for the responses guys. I did put new retainer clips on as there was only 3 or 4 originals that were still intact. Even used those little small head screws. I'm wondering if the tabs on the trim may need to be bent inwards a little bit. Anyways I'll keep working with it. If my cloudy memory serves me correctly, seems there was a noticeable gap when I was removing it. Maybe whoever the last person was to replace the windshield goofed.
Thanks
Scott

Well... It looks a little better now but still a gap though. I pulled the retainer clips off and I guess a little too much sealer got behind them. Before and after pics. What do you think? Acceptable?

Thanks
Scott
