Those are door sill alignment holes with the frame,
originally 9/16" alignment rods were used for body to frame alignment.

Hmmm.
Ok...just got painted and reinstalling sill plates...wondered if they had something to do keeping exhaust or heat out...?
So really not needed?
Thanks

Hi,
And you can bet that even if they only cost Chevrolet .02 cents each, they wouldn't be there if they didn't serve some purpose.
But???
Regards,
Alan

Seals out water/salt/dust, etc. I had a northern car in my shop many years ago. One plug was in the hole for using it for body alignment...it was factory fresh...the other one was missing...and the rust at the thole where it was NOT installed was amazing. I NO LONGER had a perfect hole for aligning the body to the frame. IT WAS GONE.
YES..I know...there are four plugs....two where installed at the front ...the rear ones on both sides area gone. So the hole in the rear right side was rusted away.
