Default One-Piece/Two Piece '74 Rear Bumper

I'm new here and not well versed in searching, so I apologize if this has been covered before. I may be getting my first 'Vette soon, a '74 to be shipped down here to Texas from California. I was looking at fiberglass rear bumpers to replace the urethane originals which get wavy and crack. Seems like the 'glass replacements have a groove to mimic the original two piece design. While it looks original, I'd prefer a one piece look. These are advertised as more flexible than standard 'glass. If the groove was filled in with glass or body filler after mounting on the car, would it likley crack?

you could put on a 75 Urethane bumper https://willcoxcorvette.com/corvette...facturer-75-79
or a fiberglass one from www.Ecklerscorvette.com
either way you dont have to fill anything

Regardless of which replacement bumper cover you choose, check to see which tail lights it requires. Stock 74 lights are one year only due to the way they mount.

I don't want the '75 with the bumperettes. I looked at the Eckler's, but the picture isn't very good, can't tell if it has the groove down the middle.

Edit: Just talked to Eckler's, there is no groove down the middle, just what I want. Thanks.

Default My bumper is a bummer

I got a '74 fiberglass one piece rear bumper from ACI. It has the butt groove, which I don't want. I was thinking about filling it with fiberglass and VPA. Maybe I should get that Ecklers bumper instead. Which Ecklers part number are you talking about Richard? Thanks.

Richard,
This is what the one-piece bumper looks like (note lack of seam and 1975- bumperettes). The comment re the tail lights is a good one. They are 1974 only.

Beautiful car Paul. Maybe I need to replace the whole rear clip to a convertible! The car I'm (hopefully) getting is a '74, so I imagine the lights are '74 as well.

I've always thought the 80-82 rear cover looks the best on these cars.

My '74 with an ACI fiberglass bumper. I wanted one that replicated the stock look.

If you show the car...even at local events...and you choose to fill in that 'groove', folks will be critical, as they know what a '74 should look like. Actually, that groove can be considered as a validation that your car is a 1974 model.

Can you fill the groove before you paint it? Sure. Just make sure that whatever you use will not 'bleed' through your primer/final coat and that it will be a long-lasting repair. But, since you are asking, I'd suggest you just go with the 'regular' repair piece for the 1974 car.

Previous owner already put one on. It is not as nice as Paul's in the picture above. The 'glass bows in a bit on each side, almost as if the WAS a seam there and it was poorly filled. There is a 'glass front already there as well, probably both were damaged in the past. The new 'glass front and rear have been damaged again!

Flexi glass bumper cover can be found here: (it's made by ACI now) https://willcoxcorvette.com/corvette...xy-glass-74-74

Use the sale code that gives you 15 off.. NEW15 and you'll save 15% off the price.
