Only saying - too many people think that a car is an invincible, protective steel box - unless someone had actually experienced a 'head-on' crash they won't have any idea of the forces exerted on the human body - 55mph that's for pussies

All you guys that think driving at normal speeds is "gutless" have never worked in an ER. You quickly learn what the term means.

85 to sometimes 100MPH is normal for most drivers on my daily commute. I don't work in a ER, that's kind of an Dudly Do right thing to say.

Once the better weather comes on and the 'fair weather' bikers dust their super-sport replica bikes down and start riding the new season - jokingly (and not a pleasant joke) the 'word' is that it is also fresh organ 'donor' season too

Well then, a ban for speeding, but calling people for thinking that they are invincible in their steel box.

Can't have it both ways sweetheart.

I was in a car accident 4 weeks ago, the kid driving us, 23yo, driving TOO fast, turned in front of a fully laden 44 ton truck.

All the doctors and paramedics said because i took the brunt of the collision in the front passenger seat, i was lucky to be alive.

I LOVE fast cars, and it seems you do too, but, don't drive like a dick on public roads.

The other thing is modern cars or highly modded older cars are so smooth at speed. I also drive in the EU at over 150 mph for hours on end and I'm over in the slow lane to let the bikes and supercars blow by me.

My rental in the EU last fall was the Citroen C7 Luxury ride and the turbo diesel base motor used the Puegeot lmp1 race car. the c-7 is equipped with a 300 kpm speedo and 6 speed manual!

He didn't turn in front of a truck because he was speeding, IDK why he did it, stupid maybe? From what youre saying the crash was not caused by speeding, but by turning in front of a truck. Stupid people should probably stick to the speed limit to lessen the severity of their inevitable crashes. I'm not stupid so I shall drive anyway I please, catch me if you can. Here's to a "speedy" recovery...

Hmm, this reads like a misquote, i, have not had a driving ban for speeding, roscobbc, has.!!!!!

Nevertheless, speeding DID contribute to this kid thinking that he could beat the oncoming truck.

Personally i don't remember, as i was knocked unconscious.

The others in the car told me what happened, he was driving too fast.

I can see that psychologically speed was a fringe contributor, but turning in front of the truck was the cause of the crash. Pointer for future reference, don't turn in front of trucks. Speed safely!

I thought it was because Jimmy Carter told us we would be out of oil by 1986.....so we must conserve by driving 55

21 Years old and I buy my first Corvette. Yes, I still have it. And Jimmy slaps on a 55 MPH Speed Limit !!! I had a Judge once tell me I was a barbitual traffic law offender what ever that meant. Now I find myself driving in Idaho with an 85 speed limit and I don't even want to go that fast. Well, not unless I'm in a Vette that is.

Had my modded 69 gto past the speedometer max of 120 coming back around to 0. Only did that twice on empty roads. Second time I tried to stop as fast as I could. 4 wheel drums. It openned my eyes and I sold it not to long after. Miss that car. Had a 86 honda interceptor that said it woulfd only do 126 mph. It only did 126 mph. All my friends on katanas, gxsr, and top end yamahas and a few others wondered where I went. Their bikes all topped out at 140 or higher. I didnt play with them after that.

The days of empty roads seem to be ending on the east coast, just moved back from Utah. empty desert highways are still alive and well out west. The imbeciles I see driving around here makes me want to weld steel rails around my car. People on phones drifting all over the lanes, staring at the map on their phone and coming into my lane or just stopping in the road to look at their phone. So many people that have no clue what they are doing. Sooooo frustrating. I wouldnt speed any where near some of these drivers. Im lucky if I can find a decent section of road to relax on without worry of deer jumping out into traffic too, not to mention people just pulling out in frint of you. Its getting really crowded up here.

I never said that there was no speed limit. I said wide open Spain. All the rich northern Europeans head to the Spanish med. So i have been passed by $$ million dollar cars that I couldn't even keep up with out on the Autovonia. The toil roads were and are so expensive when they first constructed them for Spain to be able to join the EU that it kept the rif raf of of the super highways. Hence the virtual "no speed limit" in the wide open desolate country side.

Spain is a big place with the sq miles equal to the state of Texas. It seemed to me that on my drive from Barcelona to Rock of Gibraltar was something over 700 miles if i got my conversion to Kpm to Miles.

It's also a long drive from Madrid to Barcelona. Cars and bikes blowing by me and I was driving @150 mph 240 - 260kPM. I go there to attend the F1 races in Barcelona and Valencia.

Maybe you should go visit Spain. Lots of it is a big desert with nothing. That is where they filmed the "Spaghetti westerns"

George, as i said in post #47 that you quoted, i have been to Spain dozens of times over the years, it's only just over an hours flight for me.
However, your description of very high speed driving over there is not something i recognise, the fines for speeding are very high so it is not done too often.

I don't every really remember police cars out on the toll freeways. I've never been stopped in the EU. I hope that record keeps up because I'm fly into Wein, Austria Friday afternoon from LA, California USA.
