I'm replacing the engine harness as it looks to be a potential fire hazard. I can see where the lights/ignition harness plug into the back of the fuse block through the firewall. There seems to be some kind of rubberized coating or sealant on the firewall over the plugs. What have you guys used to get it off? After you've installed the harness did you re-seal it? Thanks in advance.
Hi V,
Welcome!
First Post!!
I used a small putty knife and flat screwdriver to scrape as much of the sealer off as possible.
I cleaned the area up using lacquer thinner which does a good job.
After installing the new connector I sealed it in place using some roofing sealer from my local home store.
As you work on getting the old sealer off you see that there are actually 2 connecters that siamese together at that point… the engine harness and the forward lighting harness.
Good Luck.
Regards,
Alan
Thanks for the fast reply! Good idea about the roofing sealant. Wish me luck, first time replacing a harness, this lectric harness seems to be spot on so hopefully, this black "stuff" is the worst part.
