I need a new water pump for my 77 L48. Its a stock motor.
Every local store and online store has several to choose from
Pricing for a stock cast iron pump ranges from $26.00 to $60.00. Some come with gaskets... some don't. There are just too many choices!!
A few buddies of mine said I should go OEM. Is that even possible?
I would like to just run down to the local Auto Zone, Pep Boys or Advanced Auto and pick one up but they all have several to choose from. What is the "approved" Forum pump???

Is there a NAPA parts store in your area?
If you decide to run down to the above mentioned parts stores, I would take the old one with me to make sure it matched up. Inlet, outlet, shaft size, and depth.
Your Corvette uses a "short" pump, so don't let anyone tell you otherwise. The Corvette also used a larger pump shaft for a while in the 70's. So be sure to take your old pump, or at least the water pump pulley with you. The shaft needs to fit the hole in the pulley exactly or you're asking for a bunch of frustration.

Good advise.

There has been an alarming trend in water pump mishaps lately something to be honest I never gave a heck of a lot of thought to,
After the threads above I would have to ask mr Willcox which one would he would install/sell and go with that and hope...it's scary the crap parts out there.

It's got to where everything you buy is pretty much junk. The old saying you get what you pay for doesn't save you either. Sometimes I think only the box or label was made in America
might be the answer. 10 yrs ago people would post displeasure about others buying overseas cheap stuff defending it to the death.
This is the result we dont really have choices anymore.
