Default Finally got the paint on!

Just finished spraying my 74 ive been working on since I bought it 4 years ago.. Now I just need sand out some trash that blew into the clear in one spot and reclear the front of the car to blend it in and put the new wheels on when I get her back together. all in all I'm very pleased with how it came out and it should look sharp after cutting and buffing.
Color is "molten orange pearl" from thecoatingstore.com it is a 2 stage base/clear system.

this is the way the nose pretty much looked when I drove it home

the interior was complete but trashed.. mice made thier home inside.

got the extra nose that came with the car fitted

began stripping the green paint that was bubbling everywhere (The car was originally corvette grey then white then red then green and had been stripped prior to the green )

the new engine I built mainly from CL components est 375-400hp original appears to have a wiped cam

I did not enjoy reupholstering the seats!

finally coming together with new components.

got the obx sidepipes on with sweet thunder inserts... The heat shield are $50 a pair patriot covers that I got on summit and fabbed mounting hardware for.

I got hit by someone who backed into me while parked at my godsons grad party..

lots of old repairs and bodywork to sort out.. drivers fender appears to be from a gold car?

this was fun.. replaced bushing for the hinges and new seam sealer.. I used a soda blaster to rstrip the paint and cleaned real well before primer (didnt know it was bad for glass?)

finally some epoxy then poly then urethane sealer..

basecoat!

clearcoat! had to wait till 8pm last night to spray this since it was over 90 here in Buffalo.

it looks different colors in different lighting.

suprized at how well it came out! I've only painted 3 cars including my jeep like 10 years ago.

got some cutting and buffing to do for sure.

Love it in the sun! camera doesn't catch it all.

Im hoping to get it together for the annual "canal fest" car show in a couple weeks.. well see.. That was the "Goal" to keep me motivated. My girlfriend has been very patient with me..lol.

All I can say is WOW! You did 'Molten Orange Pearl' in your garage, I did 'Burnt Orange Metallic' AutoAir water base with Urethane clear in mine.
I don't paint as well as you! Besides, mine's just a rice burner.

That looks amazing!
You easily saved several thousand dollars by doing that yourself. You also have inspired me to think about doing my own paint when the time comes.

yes! The little things add up fast... The door seams , bumpers and even the aftermarket hood all needed serious attention I had a 1/4" gap on the drivers side at the windshield base between the hood and fenders and the wheel wells under the hood had rotted between the fender and inner fender causing the fenders to not match the contour of the hood at all... I started with less attention to detail and just kept taking one step at a time, all the while becoming more and more picky about how well I needed it to be. This car has been around the block more times than a vegas hooker it seems with all the repairs I kept finding in the body. Things assembled with woodscrews and the like..

Now, you're going to have to update your avatar pic.
Maybe with a before / after shot.

It's a long journey from where you started to where you are now. You're almost there so keep pushing so you can display your hard work at the show.
