Plastic riser on carb causing stuck throttle
I have a 69 C3 with the L46. The engine has just been rebuilt into a stroker 383.
When I got it back, I noticed it was running very roughly. Further examination reveals that there's a plastic riser on the carb, presumably to lift the air cleaner away from the throttle. The riser doesn't really fit well and the throttle still sticks. I think it's hitting the bottom of the air cleaner when I accelerate. I'm not a mechanic, I'm just trying to figure out what the next step is. I'd like to keep the car original and I have to figure there's a way to do this right. I've attached pictures. any advise is appreciated. Also, the air cleaner is pushed tightly against the shielding box that the distributor sits in. Seems to me these should not be touching, let alone crammed into ea

The plastic ring underneath does not fit well. It's the same circumference as the air cleaner, were to fit inside, it should be slightly smaller?
where the thumb is shows little cut outs in the plastic ring that don't appear to fit.
This is the plastic ring on top of the carb
tighter than it looks. Takes a lot of force to put the air cleaner on now
Notice the cleaner itself is being smashed and bent out of proportion

Should be 2 concentric springs from the rear attached to the cable bracket.
The plastic riser does not belong.
Should be a thin gasket.
The ignition shielding can be loosened and shifted to the rear for more clearance.

I agree that the throttle linkage used is not typical for the q-jet.
Here's a typical 70 q-jet, notice how low and level the throttle cable remains. This linkage is required to use the 'open' drop-base air cleaner.
You can also see the typical gasket thickness.
Hope this helps you figure out a cure for your situation.

Alan

I also think your throttle cable is in the wrong hole or the 'truck" hole. It should be in the lower one for a shorter pivot allowing full travel of the throttle. I don't think you will be getting anywhere near full throttle movement with it like that. Also, in the top hole it might be possible that the end of the cable is hitting the base of the air cleaner causing it to jamb or bind and may be the reason somebody installed a spacer when all they had to do was install the cable ball in the proper hole.

- Your throttle cable is hooked up to the wrong position on the throttle lever.
- Your return spring is hooked up incorrectly.
- You should not have a plastic spacer. The spacer is jamming your choke lever, causing your choke to jam in the fully closed or fully open position. This will also cause idle speed and throttle return problems.
Lars is 100% correct on all his facts so check them all out.
Feel under the cleaner base to see what it is hitting. it looks like something is hitting the base in the rear of the carb or to the drivers side.
Take the car to your mechanic, if that air cleaner base is hitting the throttle linkage you could be in a life or death situation!!!!
Also I don't like that nick in the air horn to the rear.
