Default Center panel between t-tops.

I purchased a new center piece for the roof in between the t's. How is this attached? It has 3 threaded studs. I removed the metal trim and you cant access the threaded part. How did they originally connect. Is their something missing. Otherwise I will drill holes and put washers and nuts on it and put the chrome back on and be done with it..Also on another note it never was in properly when I bought the car.

Hi r,
On the underside of the trim panel are studs with 'teeth' on them.
Attached to the birdcage there were originally flat fasteners with a hole in them which a tab that grabs the 'teeth' on the stud. Those flat fasteners were attached to the cage with 2 rivets each.
You position the trim piece and then give it a gentle but firm 'smack' with the butt of your hand which 'set's those studs in the flat fasteners.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan

If you have a 'vintage' piece (something over 30 years old), you want to be very careful how you install it. If you 'pop' it as Alan71 recommends (proper method for a relatively new piece), it can crack or shatter. After many years, interior plastic parts become brittle. When applying pressure to them, that pressure has to be distributed across the part to minimize localized stresses.
