Default radiator seals

I was at a cruise-in Saturday and a friend of mine said I was missing some radiator seals on my 82 CEdition Vette. He said it helps the air go directly through my radiator to the air cleaner instead of around it. He said I'm missing foam rubber parts and I believe another piece that goes on top of the piece thats in front of the radiator. I had no idea about this. I've had no overheating problems at all. Said it helps the performance also. Can someone help me. Thanks

If you've had no problems with overheating, you apparently don't NEED them. There were foam seals between radiator and shroud so that all incoming air would be forced through the radiator.

In your case, I wouldn't go the the expense (although minor) nor trouble of dealing with them. I assume that you do not have A/C on your car (or it doesn't work...or you don't use it).

I do have A/C. Why does that matter? I was told that it helps the incoming air go through a chute under the hood directly in the breather.

Yes...these seals are important...but not 'life threatening'.

Your 1982 is getting FRESH AIR to go into your air cleaner before it goes through the radiator...which is what you want.

If a seal is missing allowing some air now to be able to get past his missing piece of foam seal....is not going to ruin anything and it is not like you have to take the car off the road due to this.

With no posted photos of what is missing and where it is located....I am not going to post links to these foam seals. They are offered by virtually all of the Corvette suppliers
