The courtesy light bulb under the passenger side dash on my '70 vette is in contact with the ac ductwork, and has melted a small hole in the plastic duct. Either the duct is routed wrong, or the light is in the wrong spot. Does anyone have an AC car showing how these two pieces should be mounted without interference? Steve
Hi Steve,
The right side courtesy light moves on a/c cars. (Maybe you realized that?)
It's described as being in front of the duct work and mounted using a well-nut in the hinge pillar.
In the 71 AIM there's a detail showing the new location on UPC C60, E2, View A.
The info mentions that the normal bracket needs to be bent 60 degrees.
Where is your lamp presently?
Regards,
Alan
Thanks for the replies guys. Terry, I may go with LEDs as well as the factory bulbs don't give off much light. They will likely have less drain on battery as well.
Alan, thanks for the note. I don't see the light being relocated in my 1970 AIM AC section. Attached is an old picture of whats behind my lower passenger side dash. The light and its metal frame are located on the heater / AC box. I may have inadvertently moved the light when installing the AC duct that goes to the right side dash outlet? If anyone has a picture of the AC duct and the light intact, that would be much appreciated! Steve
Hi,
From the 71 AIM.
It appears a hole is drilled into the side of the air box and a well nut is installed.
The bracket for the lamp is bent to 60 degrees for clearance.

Alan
Thanks Alan. I don't see that view on the 1970 AIM. But it does look like my light is mounted in same spot. It may be that the angle is wrong, and therefore is interfering with the duct. Steve
Hi,
Looking at my non-a/c bracket it appears it really does need to be bent 'open' 60 degrees in order to make it work when mounted on the air box.
Regards,
Alan
The problem turned out to be I had the metal light housing upside down, so the bulb was up too high in the dash. Problem solved - thanks guys! And I am definitely going to look into LED lights for the floor and back to brighten things up at night. Steve
