When I bought my 78 earlier this month, the Dual snorkel air cleaner just opened up to the engine bay. I bought a coule boxes of parts from a gentleman locally and it included the front and side air ducts. My plan is to cleanup and install, but I'm wondering if there would have been any reason some PO removed them? Cooler air coming from the front of the car seems like a good thing to me.
Als, my L82 is really a Goodwrench 350 crate motor, would that make a difference?
Below is the picture of my OEM L-82 with the cold air intake which is now used on the rebuilt L-82 355 with AFR heads. I specifically wanted to retain the intake since the cold air intake is much better than an open air intake air cleaner ingesting hot under hood air.....use it if you can!
As long as you are using a low rise intake manifold on your 350 the intake should fit fine. Some aftermarket intakes are too high and will not allow the use of this system. I am using the OEM aluminum L-82 intake on AFR aluminum heads on the rebuilt L-82 so no fitment issues.

Thanks jb! My 78 has he low profile dual snorkel already installed but was missing the plastic intake ducts. Looks like I will be mounting these up as what you are saying makes sense to me.
I finally sourced some screws last week and mounted up the intake ducts. All fit fairly well and I thought I was good to go, but anytime I slowed down, started to hear a distinct noise from the fan blades rubbing on the shroud. Using some playdoh, determined the hood was pressing the front duct down and compressing the radiator shroud.
I'm guessing there must have been a hood profile change between 78 and 81 (the year my parts came from). Anyone have a front air duct lying around for sale?
