His L48 was something like 22-24cc volume but your L82 will be different.
BTW the L82 is a very strong short block with forged pistons and crankshaft. Better than the ZZ4 short blocks with cast cranks. Or whichever of the ZZ series that used cast cranks. I passed up a very low miles L83 long block nearby me and regret so. W/forged bottom end don't be afraid to go high compression and large duration cam - if that's what you want for power (and have the drive line gearing to match it.
Again IIWM I would measure piston volume and find the smallest chamber heads with a large duration cam to match it for a pump gas friendly Dynamic Compression Ratio. But that's me.
I'm sure my bottom end is good. Only 69,000 miles. 4 speed with 3.70 gears so that should be good? The guy at Summit crunched the numbers and came up with a CR of just over 10 to 1 with those heads and recommended that cam to go with them. A little lope with still good low end torque.
I don't know, that's why I'm asking and reading and trying to figure it out
todays headers are way better quality than the 70s 80s etc. I have never ever had a leak. Sure there are some cheapies out there somewhere but most have nice thick flanges that hold a regular old gasket a long long time. Id never go back to manifolds no matter what
I have read the stock L82 intake is just as good as the Edelbrock Performer? And the Edelbrock will not fit under the hood with the stock snorkle air cleaner. What would you recommend?
Really don't want headers, I've had them before. Hot, noisy, leaky etc.
Maybe they're better today than 40 years ago?
The performer is a better intake than the L-82's there is no difference between any spread bore intake chevy made and the L-82 except it's made of aluminum. I have a R.P.M air gap intake on mine with a 1/2 inch spacer and with a dropped base air cleaner it fits under the hood just fine. all you have to do is look at the factory intake compared to any aftermarket intake and the difference is obvious. is it a hundred horsepower ? no it isn't but 10 or 15 or 20 horsepower adds up quickly.you may get 40 or 50 horsepower changing heads adding headers and an intake and a free breathing exhaust may get you close to that much more.I wouldn't waste my time on a set of heads that good and choke them coming and going. Aparently at some point some idiot figured because the L-82 intake was aluminum it must be the same as the Z/28 or LT-1 intake and that's laughable.it's your car and if your happy leaving some power on the table that's fine. you won't cause any harm and you can always go back and add those things later. I just hate doing something twice.

Guy at Dart said the same thing. I will look at that.
Are you still running the stock dual cold air snorkle?
