Default 68 Door Ajar Switch mounting?

Hoping someone can clarify how the Door Ajar Pin Switches (rear jam) are physically attached on a 68, both of mine are empty holes, I don't see evidence of rivets that I've seen in other posts.

Should I have the metal backing/mount plate and rivets?

Thanks

Yes. There is a metal tapping plate behind each hole. The door ajar switches screw into these.

Hi S,
If the plate that the switch mounts in has in fact moved out of position the repair can be tricky because of very limited access.
An ingenious CF member came up with a way to get the needed nut in position so the switch can be mounted. You might want to consider his method.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan

I had to replace the rivets in one of mine after struggling to unscrew a defective switch and snapping the rivets, which were probably pretty rotten anyway, I managed to drill out the remains of one rivet while holding on to the switch then did the same with the second one, the new rivets were strong enough to get the switch out without further grief, ran a tap down the threads and fitted the new switch.
If the plate has dropped down perhaps you can scrounge an endoscope to find where it's lying then a magnet on a stick should pick it up, it is steel, then get it where you can screw a bolt into it to get it into position, new rivets and you're sorted?

Great info folks, thanks. Now I have to decide how nice of a fix to do, one side looks filled in where the rivets should be and the other has a figure eight shaped hole where the rivet punched out the glass.
