Hi b,
The intake runner passes right under the carb and choke; the exhaust flow helps warm the coil in the choke mechanism so it opens more quickly.
Blocking the passage slows down that occurrence.
Some 'fastidious' owners block the passage so the paint on the intake in that area doesn't darken from the exhaust heat.
How important is the operation of the choke to you based on where you live?
Regards,
Alan

1204 Fel-Pro block off the heat port.........
I recommend it unless you have to have a choke.

I do plan on using this car, and it gets cold in both states I live in. and since florida doesn't get much snow, I will use it more. do you think using the restrictor they have vice wide open will give me a desired effect? the repro gasket I have has nothing, and a original I have found have a block off plate built in.

hi alan,
do you have a picture of the back of the passenger valve cover. I haven't put my HY sticker on yet. just wanted a accurate idea before I do it.

Unless you drive the car in very cold weather (and it is very cold where it is parked), you don't really need the cross-over passage heating. The choke will still work, but it will take a bit longer to shut down. Of course, when you think it is idling too high, you can 'pop' the pedal and force the choke to drop out.
So, my advice is to use the blocker plates AND cut the heat riser valve off its shaft...so that it can never get stuck in the closed position. No intake manifold paint "burning".

We used to cut blocker plates out of antifreeze cans and put them in when we had the intake off.
(Some probably have never seen antifreeze in a can!)
