I've read where others have added a Wheelskin wrap. Before spending $200 to replace the sticky worn steering wheel on my '73, I thought I'd give it a shot...for under 50 bucks (yeah I'm cheap). I requested an extra needle and spool of thread to do a baseball stitch. There are videos on YT for that. I may still replace it down the road...but it'll do for now. In case anyone's interested, the size I used is 15" x 2 3/4"
Excellent job, they are great products but labor intensive! Had one on my base 12 Mustang, only thing I did not like was going around the spokes need to stitch over.
I would miss the metal band on the rim, think that looks cool, the kind of detail you do not see anymore on new cars.
Looks good! (But it's still too darn big, IMO.) It's a vast improvement over the stock wheel...while keeping the stock wheel.
Yeah, I thought about a smaller aftermarket wheel. But I don't have power steering...

Yep, that's one of the videos I followed. Really pretty simple. Just a few things to add...
- Tied the two thread ends together into a knot on the inside of the wrap... holes just to the right of the bottom spoke.
- Using a needle for each thread, started lacing to the right just like the video shows.
- On each side of the three spokes, I laced the threads to the holes directly inline...not staggered. Just seemed to secure the wrap and looked nicer IMO.
- Keep the thread taut after each stitch all the way around the wheel.
- Tie the final knot behind the bottom spoke and tuck inside wrap.

Five stars for you! *****
WOW! That came out great!
Thanks for sharing and thanks for posting the video.
I'm going to order the kit now that you showed how nice it looks.
Regards, Pete.
good write up, may I add most frequently the wrap will be wider than the skinny corvette wheel,
measurue dia. and cutoff about .5" for your exact dia. wheel.
use vise grips to hold threading needle, push the needle thru the leather,
to make new matching holes on the cutoff edge. lace it up.
