I had my 1972 LT1 motor refresh about 5k miles ago, now I see trace of oil around the front seal area. I am thinking the harmonic balancer might be an issue since I installed one of those cap over the shaft because I noticed a grove.
Is it do able to replace the front seal without taking the timing cover off. This time I got a new harmonic balancer to install, along with a new seal. Thank you.

It is very possible......but I recommend you make or buy a seal installer.....I made one from a block of wood.....it is just a 4x4 square piece of 2x4 with a hole augered out for the crank snout.....this allows you to get an even hit on the seal all the way around it......saves a lot of swear words The wood has "give" as to not damage the seal or cover.....
While you are at it I would inspect the PCV valve and make sure that it is breathing. I have come across leaking front and rear mains before where the problem was a stuck PCV valve.
