According to my NCRS Technical Manual and Judging Guide, the double hump heads only came on 1970 base (3927186) and LT1 engines (3973414.) The 1971's got 3973487 heads and the 1972's got 3973487X, 3998916, and 3998993 heads.

Across the C3 range, 1970 was the final year of high compression and last year of small combustion chambers.

1971 ushered in an era of low compression and large chambers.

have/had two 1971 sbc C3 ... both 487 large chamber heads
