Default Door hinge questions

'71
Years ago I replaced the door hinge "spring" that holds the door open. The other day when getting out I noticed my door would not stay open anymore. Further inspection revealed that the bottom of the spring had disengaged from the rollers. I put it back on and it is ok for now.

My question is there replacement rollers as mine are worn out without replacing the whole hinge? They are dimple-pressed on meaning the ends of the shafts are spread similar to a rivet so I'm not sure there would be a kit of some kind (haven't looked).

Hi ta,
The detent rollers can't be replaced normally.
I guess someone with the proper equipment could do it but sources say that if the rollers are worn the hinge needs to be replaced.
Regards,
Alan

Thanks as usual Alan. I was just hoping for a quick fix. I really don't want to take the door off at this point.

Responding to this just in case someone is wanting to take it further and fix the same problem.

If it is confirmed that the rollers are worn out...either in the exterior surface or that the roller itself is not staying centered on the rivet holding it in place..like as if a bearign went bad and it is sloppy.

The door is marked and removed. And a lot of it depends on if the person cares about what the top of the hinge pin looks like.

If the person wants to take off the upper hinge and deal with that...then installing a new hinge is the way to go.

But buying a new hinge and using only the one part can be done. So..basically you are leavign the portion of the hinge that is bolted to the hinge post there.

If they want to save a lot of time and are not concerned about a slight modification to the bubble head of the hinge pin itself. They can begin to remove the hinge pin and when it comes up a bit. Then take a file or small Dremel tool grinder and grind the head so when they are done it looks like a 'D'. Putting this flat spot in the head will allow the hinge pin to be rotated and come out of the hinge BECAUSE the body of the car can obstruct the pin from coming straight up and out.

It is very easy to tell if you need to grind the head of the hinge pin or not is by opening up your door and look straight down at the head of the hinge pin. If a proton of the pin is obstructed by your front fender...then you need to grind it...because if you don't...you might surprise yourself and damage the body and the paint on the edge of that panel.
