Default Push start button

Hey guys, wonder if you guys can help me locate the ignition wires under my steering column (starter, accessory, constant)
& what color the wires are?
I’ve installed a push button start & I’m having difficulty locating these three wires.
I was looking under the dash (steering column) last night and couldn’t really locate them.

Thank you,
Spiros

Look at the top of the column- see arrow.

That's your ignition switch- I've mapped it out for earlier C3- think 80 is different though.

Here's a 1980 wiring diagram-

This thread is recent enough that I'm going to piggyback off it. How would I go about hooking up a push button setup like this?

You have it easy. Taped to the harness at the front of the console is a pair of 10ga purple wires- one with a white stripe. Feed 12v to one side of your switch and the other side of the switch to the purple/white stripe wire. Presto, instant start button. Note that this will crank the engine only and NOT provide power to the ignition. And this will also bypass your clutch safety switch.

I would never even consider doing this withou using a good relay and going through the clutch switch or the neutral safety switch. Ever.

Because the last thing you want is for someone to hit the starter button if your in gear, be it standard or auto.
I dig the pushbutton, like a Ferrari or some other exotic. But wire the safety switch(es) into the mix. Get a GOOD start button and it can do more than just spin a starter....

Yeah, I don't want to lose the safety systems. Can it be hooked up on the other side of the clutch safety switch?

Yes- it can. Hit the wire right at the column ignition switch.

BUT you also need to have the "push button" disengaged or electronically locked out after it's started- as the placement looks too easy to accidentally hit while driving down the road.

So is this used to bypass using a key in the column?

It can be...but you have to either remove or have a manual/custom steering column release- and then there is reverse lock out.

I'm using a keyless/remote system with transponders. I have to have the key fob to start the car.

And they are programmable- can walk away with the key fob and it'll lock the car.

I still have the clutch safety switch-have an electric power steering motor on the column so I just removed the steering column lock. Since I went w/ a 5 speed- just bypassed the reverse lock out. And then filled the ignition switch w/ a windshield wiper switch.

These are around $150-
