A Question for Alan 71
Do you have a huge library of pictures of your car you can reference and post on the forum, or do you crawl around your car and snap the perfect picture to help others.
I really find it amazing the quality of the pictures you post, and the help you provide to others
Anyhow thanks for your contributions, I certainly appreciate them....
Seriously pretty sure he did a well detailed and photographed build on his car as some of the pictures you can see with the body off. His pictures are a wealth of knowledge for many here. I don't know how he keeps them all straight.
There are about 10,000 photos now. They are broken down into 5 main groups that correspond to the NCRS Flight Judging Sections…. Interior, Exterior, Mechanical, and Chassis, plus a General section.
About 750 are from the early 90's when I began the restoration of my car.
I switched to a digital camera around 2005 or 2006.
Various parts of the car have been apart as the years have gone by and I add photos of things I have access to at that time.
Right know the running gear and rear suspension is out of the car in order to re-do some things due to updated restoration information and increased finishing abilities. So the Chassis section is growing right now.
I continue to take photos of specific things that folks ask about and try to anticipate what people might be interested in seeing too.
After the rear of the chassis running gear is completed I'm thinking about doing a group of photos of the dash/console area since there are so many questions about that.
For some reason, (actually, I know why but don't want to say it …think 'Rainman'), I can immediately remember if I have a photo that will help in answering a question and when I took it.
Regards,
Alan

Good to talk to you!
I've never really considered doing anything with the photos other than what I'm doing.
I don't want it to begin becoming too much like 'work'!
Although I have lot's of photos of lot's of things there are VAST areas of the car that I have NO photos of.
Right now people 'get what they get' for free and that's good…. but if there was a 'fee' involved people would be 'disappointed' that there's things they'd like to see… but there's no photo.
IF there had been such a thing as a digital camera when I began there'd be lot's of photos of things I simply don't have now.
Probably the biggest mystery is the dashboard. That seems to drive almost everyone (including me) crazy.
In my next life I'll do it differently!
Regards,
Alan
Yes I bought the car new.
It has about 46,000 miles on it.
I drove it about 35,000 miles the first year and a half I had it.
It was in typical condition for a car driven in the mid-Atlantic region.
It had no frame rust or birdcage rust.
It was VERY complete so I bought very few parts for it… I restored everything. The original budget was $15,000 including paint and chrome plating.
I don't drive it at all.
The last time it was driven was in 2011 when I had it Flight Judged at a Chapter meet.

Alan
About 1994.

About 2004 Getting ready to go meet the body.
Yes, there are some of my photos among the photos in the new edition of the 70-72 TIM&JG.
The vast majority of the photos in the new manual are of unrestored cars so are a terrific source of information concerning how things were done in Tonawanda, Flint, and St.Louis.

Alan

I just wanted to say 'thank you' for taking the time to post your extremely detailed photos and to thank you for taking the time to explain how to properly rebuild the many parts of a C-3.
The one photo that impressed me the most is the wiper tray.
You should post that one again for all the new members to see.
It sure knocked my socks off when I first saw it.
Enjoy the holiday week.
Pete.
