Just spent an hour or two reading this. Very interesting. Gary told me to have a look at this thread and I'm glad I did. I am in the process of doing an iron diff conversion for my 81. It's basically stock and I'm only likely to do minor upgrades as far as the engine is concerned; however the Dana diff that was stock is just no good. The only things that could have been reused were the housing and the spider gears. It's now to become my workmates new table.
I will be doing the work on mine myself with a bit of help from my boss, and of course Gary's advice. I'd love to get Gary to do mine for me,but just don't have that kind of money, plus this way I get to learn something new.

Thank you for posting this.
Glad to hear that this thread was helpful information for you.
Gary is quite free with his technical expertise even when he will not reap any money from it.
Good luck with your project.
Hope it goes well for you.........
Fedex finally got my diff to GA and went and picked it up. Box survived quite well.......but a word of warning.
If you ship with them expect the box to travel upside down, left and right and on its end. The straps I made to hold it down inside popped off one on each side as the weight hanging upside down was too much for them. Next time, I'll build a wooden brace to go across the top of the diff and secure it to the roof panel. That way the diff cannot move.
Other than that......it looks great!
And Gary sends along 4 pages of instructions, detailed printout of the bill, and 7 pages of narrative of what he did on each day along with the specs.
Oh yeah...and a T-shirt also....
Now I really do need to get to work next month.
If any of you have questions, feel free to shoot me a pm or post here.
Very very nice. But ouch, not cheap! Didn't catch the bit about the offset trailing arms being included in the price the first time I read your post. How much just for the diff, and remind me what it's rated to?
Well put Derek.
Btw....Tom sold his business and a couple owns it now. Gary Ramadei is in touch with them and still gets parts from them as far as I know. Tom himself stopped building rear ends when his main rear end guy passed away some time ago.
You can still go to Toms website. New prices were posted in late Spring.
And you can easily contact Gary thru the DC forum.
Hope you follow your path to building them as there will always be a need for precision workmanship.
Txs for your comments.
Dennis
Just an update of what I know about Tom's Differentials....
Looks like Tom is still the owner and running his business. The deal fizzled out for what reason I don't know.
I am about to order more parts from Tom before he does close up or find another buyer.
Good luck to you all doing your own work. PM me if you need contact info.
For all you who follow this thread, THIS differentialis now for sale.
It has never been installed.
It was filled with rear diff fluid and 2 bottles of posi additive. Rotated weekly. If I ship this, I'll drain it. It is right under the 150# weight limit.
Pick up is also available.
We have been hit with some unexpected big bills suddenly and I have to sell off my Corvette project entirely.
I really hate to see this go.
I checked with Gary especially as some of the parts in this one from Tom's are no longer available.
He is checking leads for me.
Price is $5500 for the differential boxed and ready to go. You can come pick it up just about any time. Or I can drain it and ship it as it is just under the 150# weight limit.
I also have a set of Tom's 4" half shafts in the same color as the differential along with a set of Van Steel offset trailing arms (the coil over type with johnny joint front bearing). The Outer Axles from Tom's would be included. Gary set up the bearings for the bearing box/support and will be included 1/2" wheel studs 3" long included. The trailing arms and outer axles will need assembly but it is all there. Coilovers also available.
If someone is interested in these I can make a package deal.
I'll be cataloging everything and posting it in a separate For Sale thread.
Wow Dennis,
This is bad news about having to sell your project.
Keep up a good attitude no matter how things go, because life will turn everything around and you'll feel back on top before long.
I went through a terrible financial loss ten years ago and was forced to sell everything, including my property and toys.
I'm in a perfect place in my life now and better off than I would be if I had not suffered the loss.
I wish I could help, but I just purchased all the parts and axles for Gary to do my trailing arms, half shafts and as you know, just took delivery of one of Gary's rear differentials.
Stay positive and the best of luck to you.
I have seen Dennis’ stash of parts and have dealt with him and consider him a good friend. His stuff is what he says it is and there is nobody here I would feel more comfortable buying parts from.

Thanks Greg.
Best of luck finishing up your project.
You definitely have the best pieces for that rear suspension and differential now.
And thanks for the well wishes.
