Default Is this carb computer controlled?

I'm new to the 1981 CCC thing (also just got this car). Trying to decide if this carb is computer controlled and will need to be replaced along with the distributor (I'm taking the ECU out). I know it's not the original carb and I notice there is a vacuum port missing on the back/top of it that goes to that red thing. It's a quadrajet 17085204.

Any idea why the port is missing on the back?

I bought the car because I want a simple carb'd engine to play around with. Didn't know about the smog and ECU stuff until after. I've read that the trans lockup doesn't really matter (not a daily driver, don't care to much about MPG). I wasn't aware that any of the gauges went through the ECU.

That's a good looking core. Let me know if you sell it.

Not sure why you want to "play with the carb". That's the advantage of the CCC (ECM) computer controlled system on that car....the ECM does the adjusting--and does it pretty well on a working system.

I would advise you to use the car a while before just throwing stuff out that still works. You may find that you like not having to mess with it.

P.S. With that system, you can still upgrade the engine with cam, heads, pistons (if you want); and it should still work fine. That Q-Jet is capable of dumping 750 cfm into the engine (likely only puts 500+ cfm into the existing engine).

It's for sure not something i'm going to do right away. Currently I'm taking the oil pan off to repair/replace it (has a huge dent and leaks). After that and some other minor repairs (door locks frozen, speedo cable lubing) I'm going to drive it around as is for a while (well, after I also hunt down a vacuum leak and replace the broken choke module).

I hadn't considered just replacing them all, that sounds like a plan.

One thing to consider is whether or not you will need to get a smog certification where you live. I bought my 73 because it is smog exempt where I live. As part of my resto/mod I'm now researching some of the EFI and electronically controlled transmission options on the market rather than staying with a single carb and my TH-400.
