Was wondering how many if any drive around without a spare tire . I am probably asking for trouble here but i haven't had mine on for over 25 years . My old exhaust would't let it fit . This ones suppose to be right but i haven't tried it . Does anyone use one of those space saver tires that would fit behind the seat ?
Whether you have a spare in the tub or not, who would want to drop the tub and actually change the tire when you can call Hagerty or your road service emergency number to have the car towed/fixed? Before cell phones, you HAD to do it yourself. Now, you don't......
I removed my carrier 13 years ago when I got the car and one of the mufflers/tailpipes hit the pavement. Needed to remove for new exhaust work. Have always been curious as to if it will still fit, but probably will not reinstall; since I have replaced everything in the rear (except the diff) I'd rather show off that work rather than that old tub Ha Ha. Not much interested in changing a flat anyway, like 7T1vette says....

Removed my carrier this year. I carry some of that tire repair in a can. Hope I never need it. I'll try that first rather than waiting hours for a tow truck in this neck of the woods.

I once had a flat in my Porsche 500 miles from home. No cell coverage. The tire was completely shredded. The only thing that kept me going was spare. When I got home, I put the spare back in the '71 Corvette, because I do long road trips in that car, too.
I put a simple tire repair kit in the tub. Minimally you maybe can get by with a compressor in the jack compartment to get some air in the flat and limp to somewhere. A huge blowout, well that's a different story. AAA!

I didn't carry a spare and kept a tire repair kit + pump in the car. Then I hit a chunk of concrete not far from the house and barely wobbled home. I replaced all 4 tires (they were old) and used a tire calculator to get a thinner spare that fit in the tub which is the same diameter as the rest. I looked into the small donuts you mentioned but if I remember got pricey.
It will probably rot away in there never used (I hope) but when you need it you need it. Changed my mind. I think all it in was about $70
I had a puncture (front/passenger side) this summer. I was about 5 miles from home, but "home" is fairly remote. In the spare carrier/tub: a 46 year old Goodyear which came with the car when it left St. Louis. Also, the car's original jack. The tire is in no way shape or form roadworthy, and most (but not all) commenters says jacking your C3 with its original jack is asking for trouble. So I called Hagerty and did the two hour wait. Then I bought 5 brand new Coker radials that have the original Firestone Wide Oval sidewall and tread, and I put the 46 year old spare in my office as a trophy. Long story short: if the car is "always" within 30 minutes of a flatbed, then dump the extra weight and leave the tub empty. If not, (1) get a decent spare, and (2) get a decent jack.
