Default 74 Rear Window Mod

Stopped by a local gathering spot late yesterday afternoon and came across a 74 "SS". I've never seen that back window mod before.

Here's the front headlights.

There are two slightly different but same idea versions of that mod, one is found on the motion performance phase cars,

ecklers offered there version, the only big difference was glass shape,

Builders also used glass from the vega hatch to do that mod,

This is different to ecklers hatch back that used monza rear glass, that some confuse it for,

Far more of the ecklers version are out there but for the last several years every old custom is a motion car, lol.

Fugly! And it just makes the interior that much hotter when sitting in the sun. I'm just glad it's on THAT guy's car.

The better mod would be to install the removable window in your car (available from 1968-1971).

I wouldnt say fugly but it has an old school custom stigma with me, you know i love that junk,

I thought using a plastic rear window was cheap and half ***, which they did with these,

But yeah, if i was a coupe person i would take the removable stock flat glass over this mod, something really cool about that removable rear window.

I had forgotten that one, it did turn out pleasing, thats a stunning build in many ways,

Rear window treatments,

It brings around the way i think c3s look best, if they have to have a rear window that is and i have been in a minority on this one for years, having even a purist or two call me nuts and say this look is buttfugly, but i dig it best....

Yep, the factory hard top, always liked this look best...except for topless

I like that black and silver 74 along with Denpos car. Yup, looks like the hardtop, clean.

It's funny, 40 years later and these old school Ecklers custom car's are still popping up from time to time. Not mine, but here's a project, and I mean project currently for sale from Craigs list:

Edit: I wish it was a Mako style car, would be in my driveway.

After all that work you could make those louvers in no time Denpo.
My 79 has that big window and with a clear ceramic film plus a dark tint on the windshield tops and back window you wouldn't believe how much heat you keep out of the car.
Good luck finding a tinter to do that back window.

The only mod I ever did on a 74 was to help a friend put in a 72 removable window assembly.

Funny thing is that it did not leak..

15 years later I don't bend so well and would not try it again.

Impossible, if you're into custom Vettes and can't take a comment, you're doing it wrong.

I love the look of my car with the hard tap installed almost the where it hurts to take it off after winter. I think it looks better than the coupes.........

This is refreshing most times i get slammed for liking the hard top look,

Back when we drove the 69 daily i was in it waiting on tina in a store, a young fellow pulls up really getting into the 69, i dont recall his remark but my reply was the top comes off...he was all deer in headlights,
His girlfriend chimed on but what if it rains and tops home, i said its got a folded top down in there pointing at the back, both the cat and his girl had to hang into the car and see this, they were blown away....i still get that way over c3s even though ive had them for over 30 years.

If I had A/C I might not ever take the hard top off.
